Buzzards Bay Coalition

The Buzzards Bay Coalition is a membership-supported non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, protection and sustainable use and enjoyment of our irreplaceable Bay and its watershed. The Woods Hole Learning Center is an interactive exhibit center with a touch tank and tons of information on how to enjoy and protect Buzzards Bay. Summer Hours: Tuesday- Saturday, 10-4:30.

Bridge to Discovery

Join the Buzzards Bay Coalition for Bridge to Discovery, a free, hands-on program for families with young children looking to discover Buzzards Bay. We’ll start with a Bay-themed story and craft, meet Bay creatures from our touch tank, and learn about how to explore the Bay with the whole family.

How well do you know the critters  in our bay? Come visit the Buzzards Bay Discovery Center during our Creature Feature program to get to know specific animals a little better. In this hands-on program we discuss a new organism each week; getting up close and personal with some individuals of the species as we learn about where you can find them in the bay, how they lives, and what ways they are impacted by pollution. This is a great way for visitors of all ages to meet Bay creatures first hand and learn about the important natural environment of Buzzards Bay.

Touch Tank Feeding

Join the Buzzards Bay Coalition for the touch tank feeding at the Buzzards Bay Discovery Center. Learn about the variety of animals living in Buzzards Bay and help feed the live animals in the touch tank. Visitors of all ages will have hands-on fun encountering the animals in the tank while learning how to make a difference in Buzzards Bay.

Join us for ‘What’s in the Bay Today?’ at the Buzzards Bay Discovery Center. Learn about the variety of animals living in Buzzards Bay and observe what animals are in the bay right in Woods Hole. Visitors of all ages will have fun discovering the animals hands-on while learning how to make a difference in keeping Buzzards Bay healthy for all of us to enjoy.

Marine Biological Laboratory

The MBL is a leading international, independent, nonprofit institution dedicated to discovery and to improving the human condition through creative research and education in the biological, biomedical and environmental sciences. Founded in 1888 as the Marine Biological Laboratory, the MBL is the oldest private marine laboratory in the Americas.

Northeast Fisheries Sciences Center (NEFSC)

The Laboratory houses a public and research aquarium that is often open to visitors year round and is also home port for two research vessels, the R/V Albatross IV and R/V Delaware II.

Penikese Island School

The Penikese Island School is a unique program for troubled teenage boys located on Penikese Island 12 miles southwest of Woods Hole in a beautiful and rustic setting. Penikese is also a state bird sanctuary and the nesting site of rare birds. Visit the Penikese Island School website for more information including summer visitor's trips and other public events. Sea Education Association

Since 1971, Sea Education Association (SEA) has been a leader in marine education developing an understanding of the ocean and of its powerful role. SEA offers programs for college students, high school students, and teachers.The idea is to give students the opportunity to study the ocean from a multitude of academic perspectives and to do it from the platform of a traditional sailing vessel. The SEA sailing vessels – 134 foot brigantines - operate year-round. The SSV Corwith Cramer sails the waters of the North Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea, while the SSV Robert C. Seamans sails the waters of the Northern and Tropical Pacific.

Zephyr Education Foundation, Inc.

Zephyr Education Foundation hosts middle, high school and college class field trips in Woods Hole. Our Ocean Science and Technology Program for school classes includes a hands-on scientific cruise on Vineyard Sound and a session in a specimen tank room at one of the research labs. Typically over 1500 students per year participate in our one-day programs. In the summer our ocean science exhibit is open to the public at 97 Water Street.
